SLST-S304 and SLST-S604 Language Revitalization (also offered in Anthropology) addresses the issues raised by the fact that half of the 6,000 languages spoken today are endangered. This course explores why languages are at risk and investigates how minority and indigenous languages can be revitalized. Case studies highlight practical solutions currently being tried out in diverse communities. Students choose a particular endangered language as their focus of study.
